Innovative Furniture for Aged Care. Aesthetics meets Function.
The world has changed and design is changing with it. Products that are designed with health and safety in mind are being seen more and more. We love innovations especially when they can be used in aged care. For this issue we have found two great designs that are more than what they seem. They combine aesthetics with function, and fulfil the needs of the users.
The first is the Lotte Chair by Sarah Hossil. A brilliant design with potential use in aged care. The seat has extended armrests that go all around the chair serving as a handrail and provide additional support. People who may have aged related impairments are able to get up, sit down and manoeuvre about with more ease and independence. Residents can use the armrest as support, and so put all the weight on their arms instead of their feet, thus aiding the weight transfer in sitting down or getting up.

The second is the Noise-Virus-Catcher by Bruag. A room-dividing screen that combines acoustics, design and hygiene. While that name may not be the most innovative, don’t let that fool you. This free-standing partition wall has perforated wooden elements on both sides. The centre of the screen has clinical filters that remove all kinds of viruses and pollen. Additionally it has a built-in fan which circulates the purified air back into the room. If that’s not enough the room divider is also insulated for sound absorption!
That is a lot of big ticks from us.
