de Fiddes Family - Cochlear implant surgery

Covid has definitely taught us how important it is to have people around us that support us in every way and so this month we would like to focus on an integral member of the de Fiddes family. Vanessa Levi who has been with de Fiddes for 11 years recently under went Cochlear implant surgery!

Incredibly fascinating and a monument to technology, the implant electrically stimulates the auditory nerve and restores/improves the ability to hear.

Hearing through a cochlear implant is different from normal hearing and takes time to learn so she says,  or perhaps she just doesn’t want to listen to the rest of us!!

We think that this is an amazing technology that’s used to improve wellbeing and we couldn’t be happier for Vanessa!

“Fortunately I have good hearing from my right ear, but nothing from my left.   The cochlear implant was the only way to restore some form of hearing on that side.  Having been designated as a suitable candidate, I underwent the surgery early in December - a big thank you to Dr Friedland and his team.  I now await the switching on and the real work begins.

I anticipate an interesting yet rewarding few months ahead, with maybe the odd frustration thrown in!!    Whatever unfolds it is very exciting and I’m up for the challenge.”

If you would like to know more, or have some questions - feel free to contact Vanessa!
