As ever, we began the year with the de Fiddes team planning day. One of our considerations was to decide on an appropriate theme for the year – 2017 would be the year of the “Influencer”. This fits so many categories of our work; products, knowledge and people who influence us and hopefully inspire us to influence our clients in the best possible ways.
We would like to kick off the year by highlighting a wonderful photo series by Tom Hussey. “Reflections of the Past” is a series of photographs showing an elderly person looking pensively at the reflection of their younger self in the mirror. Hussey was inspired by a WWII veteran who couldn’t believe he was about to turn 80, “I feel like I just came back from the War, I look in the mirror and I see this old guy”. The images were used by healthcare company Novartis in a marketing campaign for Exelon Patch used in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. The campaign won a gold Addy Award from the American Advertising Federation.
How is Tom Hussey an influencer? Purely by being an award winning commercial photographer which allowed him to show ageing and Alzheimer’s in a positive way, highlighting the beauty in all of us whilst touching on something everyone will go through at some point in their lives. I know I already do a double take at my own reflection occasionally – where is my 20 year old self? It feels like me but looks all wrong!
